When are interviews for the 2023-2024 season?

Interview dates for new singers are Thursday, May 25 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, and Friday, July 21 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Register for an interview.

Individual meetings for current singers will be Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday, July 23 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Register a current singer.

What can I expect in an interview?

Girls will get to know the Palmetto Girls Sing staff and answer a few questions about themselves. Musically, girls will echo short rhythmic and tonal patterns and sing either “Happy Birthday”, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, or “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”.

What age group does Palmetto Girls Sing serve?

The Palmetto Girls Sing choir is for young women grades 4-12.

What time and place are rehearsals?

We meet most Mondays in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, South Carolina (108 Cambridge Ave E, Greenwood, SC 29646). Grades 4-6 rehearse from 4:30-5:45 p.m. and grades 7-12 rehearse from 6:00-7:00 p.m. 

Our year will begin with a parent meeting and opening reception on Monday, July 31 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Our first rehearsal for the 2023-2024 season will be Monday, August 7.

Is this a religious organization?

The Palmetto Girls Sings repertoire has a strong focus on both sacred and secular music. Participants in the choir are not required to affirm the Christian faith, but must be comfortable singing for and in various church scenarios, upholding good values, and singing spiritual songs. PGS is a non-profit organization that serves as an outreach ministry within First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, South Carolina.

How often are performances?

Our choir performs a winter and spring concert each year. We also perform in the community upon invitation.

Does palmetto Girls Sing group have an opportunity to travel?

Yes! We believe group travel creates good memories for our singers and expands their worldview. Palmetto Girls Sing has participated in festivals in New York, New Orleans, and Myrtle Beach.

How much singing experience does my child need?

Little to none! This choir is about learning and developing a passion not only for singing, but for friendship and working together as a team. Rehearsals will focus on learning the musicality of each song, with a focus on vocal health, music reading, dynamic range, performance skills and other important qualities of high-quality musicianship.

What is the time commitment?

PGS rehearses most Monday evenings with two concerts each season and one out-of-town performance each year. Parents will be given notice of these dates at the start of the season!

Are there any fees to join?

Tuition for PGS is $130 per semester. Tuition is collected at the beginning of September and 

February. Girls also purchase a Palmetto Girls Sing t-shirt for $12 to wear on our offsite performances and group activities. Concert dresses are loaned to each singer for one year.

What can I expect at rehearsals?

In short, a whole lot of fun! We spend rehearsal time focusing on music but also learning important qualities of professional musicianship with lots of hands-on activities and games to enhance friendship and unity as a choir.
